Major disappointment

This is the 2nd time i've eaten at Cafe Malaga, but the first in the new location. I'll start with the good... the new location is great and the patio is a very fun atmosphere. The rest of our dining experience was terrible. I'm not sure if it was because we were a large party (10) or our server was overwhelmed, or they were just understaffed, but it was the 2nd worst service i've ever received. The first being at a now closed korean restaurant in Allen, but I digress. It took a full hour and a half for all of our plates to arrive, and a couple of the orders were even incorrect. By that point, we were so hungry we ate whatever was put in front of us, we didn't want to have to deal with sending food back. There was one instance where we had to ask for a tapa 3 times before it was eventually brought out. And my water was never refilled throughout the whole meal, probably because it was free. My spouses wine was replenished without being ordered however. Come to think of it I didn't see a single busser on the patio, maybe they need to hire a couple. The manager or owner (she didn't identify herself) did come out to apologize but by then it was too little too late. She could have thrown in a free dessert or something so we could at least end our meal on a good note. Our server was completely unapologetic and borderline rude. She double charged an item on our bill and didn't apologize, she even seemed put out that we asked her to correct it. So getting past the terrible service, I would say that the food is better than average. I really liked the potato croquettes and my husband loved the chorizo, the hummus was average and the chicken piri piri was awful. Basically just a spiced chicken breast on a plate. I could have made it at home.
I hope that Cafe Malaga can get their problems worked out, because I really did enjoy eating in the smaller location, but after this experience, we agreed that we won't be returning.

Ok I can't say enough about this place! Everything is fresh and made from scratch. I recommend the sangria which is fantastic! The hummus and bobbaganoush with fresh pita bread is amazing. This restaurant is family style so everything you order is meant for sharing. I highly recommend the spinach salad, bacon wrapped dates, the beef in the creamy sauce, the gispatcho, and the pizza are so good. You can't go wrong with whatever you choose to try and once you go you will definitely be back. We try and go once a month or order it to go. Live music on Thursdays I think and the weekend. Very nice place and the owner is super sweet!

I was working away at the Ice Cream Crank-Off on July 4th and my hubby walked up with chicken on a stick. I gladly took a bite, and it was unbelievable. I loved the flavor and said, "Where did you get that?" He pointed over to the tent that Cafe Malaga had set up. I went over to get more! They said it was their Piri Piri chicken, and I say it was out of this world good. My husband and I plan to pick up more soon from their restaurant. We already tried one day, buy they were swamped. Other people must agree with our opinion about their food! Thanks, Cafe Malaga!
