Dinner not as good as Breakfast
by theangryscotsman
on August 7, 2011
Had a very pleasant experience for breakfast about a year ago. Returned recently for dinner. We had been shopping and it got a little late. Spoons was open and having enjoyed their breakfast we went in for a late supper. There was a fellow playing guitar and singing. He was on his last song when we got there as he promptly packed up and left after we sat down. The server was obviously in a hurry to get out of there herself. She informed us that if we wanted to eat she needed to put in the order NOW as the kitchen was closing. The food came out quickly and was not so great. We had the burger and the fish tacos. Burger tasted like the meat had been sitting in the fridge for a while before being cooked and the fish tacos "tasted funny" I ordered some Martini thing that seemed watered down. our server did not return to our table after the food came except to bring the check, so I had to go to the bar and fetch my second drink. I'm not as charmed as I was from the 1st visit so it will be another year at least before I return. Oh, and it will be for the breakfast.

this may be the reason we came out # 5

in the list of best places to live. My grandson has voted this place his number one breakfast spot. That six year old can go thru a big bunch of bacon and with the Saturday morning buffet he gets his fill. With my current health kick the yogurt with fresh fruit is my favorite, if I ever get over this--I'm back to that breakfast sandwich!

Good pie!

I didn't eat lunch or dinner here, I just stopped in for some pie, which I had heard was really good (and it was!). The place was very loud and open (like a cafeteria), and VERY busy.

what happened? Going down fast.

Once there was a nice place with great food, service and atmosphere. I thought it was named Spoon's but after 3 recent meals there, this can't be the same place. In watching the staff, they were herding people in and out as fast as they can. You should not expect to have a casual meal at lunch time. The food got worse with each time I went back thinking it was a one time flop but to put it nicely, it's not. The prices do not match the low standard of food being served now. The desserts is what first hooked me but even that now has seemed to have gone south. I do not know what happened but something has changed at Spoon's and I'll have to knock this place off my list until they can get their standards back up.

Great Place

I really love this place with the nice breakfast to the great lunches. The cupcakes are so good but the pies aren't the best. Although everything is suppose to be made here from scratch I really don't care for whip cream from a can but prefer freshly made and they surely don't make that here. I can't complain to much but the prices are a bit high for some things. I still love the atmosphere, music, good food and the friendly staff. Will keep coming and ordering cupcakes for years to come!

no longer a secret

Can't blame them for being popular.
Still excellent food & some unique dishes.
Yet to have a bad meal there.
Used to be less busy when there were hidden on the side street. Now they're on the corner & lots of folks enjoying their eats.
Try it, you'll like it!

Nothing Special

They used to have a more friendly atmosphere. Now, the pace is too fast, the crowd too clique-y, and the food very average. And pricey. Bakery items can be topped at local spots. The Garage? Not sure what that is? Does anyone go there?

Used to be...

This place was amazing when it first started out in that little hole in the wall. Service was great and the owner was very sweet. Over the years it's gotten greasier and the owner seems to have become more secluded to her close knit "in crowd" with little time or care for people who aren't in the "circle of trust" so to speak. Her catering customer service has slipped from grace too :S
I miss the old days..

Spoons is great

Excellent breakfast, great salads and the best meatloaf I have ever tasted. Their chocolate pie is my fave though. We try to go on Thursday or Friday nights to hear the live music. Nice staff too.
